Camp Advocate Information

Our challenge to you:

Find one kid from your community who needs a connection...

  • Help him/her sign up for & pay for camp

  • Follow-up with her/him after camp & provide a connection to your church or organization

  • Let Angela@AldersgateIowa.org know how & how many you sent this year & stories will be posted here & other places.

Whether your first year or your twentieth, we hope that you find an idea on this page to help you promote camp this spring. If you have a creative way to promote camp, please use the form at the bottom of this page to let Angela know & she will add it. Check back regularly for new ideas from long-term camp coordinators.There are some ideas in the packet mailed to each United Methodist church in early February. Use this for yourself or to have others help you share about camp.

Ask former camp staff, former camp volunteers, former leaders-in-training, junior counselors, junior staff, campers, pastors-of-the-day, parents of campers, grandparents of campers, ..... to share about their experiences at camp, how camp had an impact on their life, where they have seen camp's influence, why they would recommend camp, .....

You could try...

  • Call a neighboring church & ask for their best idea.

  • Call a neighboring church & ask to swap passionate speakers.

  • Adopt-a-_______ at the camp and use the regular mention of it to remind your congregation about camp.

  • Hold a retreat at the camp.

  • Bring a group to the camp for a special program or work project.

  • Invite someone from the camp to speak, lead a group, or present at a meeting.

  • Switch it up: if you usually present during Sunday School, present during Sunday worship, Wednesday family night, or youth group.

  • Do commercials. Do a little bit in all of the gatherings you have.

  • Get a DVD from the camp to use during worship or during gathering times.

  • Have campers hold a fund-raiser to raise part of the money for their camp support.

  • Commit to paying 1/2 (or MORE!) of each registration fee for each child going to camp.
